Meet Yamashita Tomohisa: the Japanese boy I’ve had a crush on since 1999. He’s part of the top talent agency in Japan called Johnny’s Entertainment, and this song is one of his more recent solo works… “Loveless.”

I love him, you know? (Allow me to fangirl) We’re soulmates, only he hasn’t met/found me… yet. Hahaha! ;P

I love this song. It’s sad, sure, but what’s new about me liking sad songs?

I most especially liked how even if the song is sad, there’s some kind of optimistic sound to it: it’s not entirely depressing and hopeless as most “goodbye-love” songs are. Like you feel the sense of struggle and preservation of the song. The persona is trying to make things work from the outcome of the present situation and his becoming in the future. Though the persona is sad about letting the love of his life go, he quickly understands that there is some kind of deeper, fuller love and beauty in letting go. And he has to let the love of his life go, because that is love—you do what is right and best for the other; you set people free, even if it is a fucking stab to the heart.

The situation sucks, but it’s better than imprisoning someone right?

Cheers and thank God for Yamashita Tomohisa, the music!
